Switching Gears

Okay, the Nike+ thing didn't work out very well for me.
It's a great idea, and a decent product for what it is.
I found it to be pretty inaccurate though. I was walking the same route everyday, and every day the miles were varying. Sometimes significantly.

The other problem I ran into (walked into?) was that my knees were killing me. My right knee swelled up pretty good on me after about 2 weeks of walking, so I quit.

I'm now riding a bike. And. It's. FUN!
Seriously, I should have just done this to begin with. I'm having a great time, and most importantly, my knees aren't bothering me anymore.

So, that's what I've been up to for the last 3 weeks or so. Riding my bike.
At first I wasn't sure how to set my goals. Do I worry about distance? time, speed? All three? I've decided that I'll just concentrate on riding laps around the block.
I've decided that I will add one lap every 3 days until I get to 25 laps. That should sort out any issues with time and distance. Speed is a separate issue, and I'm still not sure how I'm going to improve that, but it too will come along with time I'm sure.

Once I get to 25 laps once a day, I'll drop back down to 10 laps, twice a day, and work my way back up again. From there I plan to start riding to work.
I'm probably going a bit slower than I need to, but I've had enough of Doctors and Hospitals to last me a life time at this point.
My Oncologist was impressed when I told him what I've been up to. Impressed that I actually managed to motivate my lazy ass off the couch that is.

Oh, and I quit smoking again too.
I'm down to ~220 thanks to the bit of walking and biking, along with me spending more time on sorting out my diet. I'm feeling pretty good now. The weight battle has just begun though.
